BIOROBOTICS, the Italy-Korea Joint Laboratory for Research on Biorobotics, was established
in September 2007 in the International Cooperation Building at the Korea Institute
of Science & Technology (KIST) in Seoul (South Korea) with the support of the Italian
Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MAE) and the Ministry of Science and Technology (MOST),
in the framework of the Executive Program 2007-2009 for the International Cooperation
between Italy and South Korea.
This initiative is the result of the solid collaboration between Scuola Superiore Sant'Anna (SSSA) in Pisa (Italy) and Korea Institute of Science & Technology (KIST) in Seoul (South Korea).
The main objective of BIOROBOTICS is to become a hub between Korea and Italy by connecting universities, research centres, and small and medium enterprises in both countries (and, as a natural extension, in Europe and Far East) in the fields of Ambient Assisted Living.
This approach is pursued at three different levels: excellent research; joint education; and strengthening of industrial relationships.
The activities of BIOROBOTICS concern both realizing new bio-inspired and/or bio-mimetic
machines and conceiving new ones to improve the quality of life within Ambient Assisted
Living.
